The exhibition invites visitors to take one last look behind the scenes of museum work and gain fascinating insights into the plans for the future museum, before it embarks on a phase of renovation and modernisation set to last several years.
The exhibition straddles the line between a farewell party, a think tank and a glimpse into the crystal ball: it creates space for memories, piques curiosity about what lies ahead and invites visitors to reflect on the museum’s role in society – past, present and future.
The exhibition centres on three themes: the architectural visions and plans by Lina Ghotmeh Architecture and BIWERMAU Architekten for the future building; the conceptual ideas behind the new permanent exhibition; and a walk-in, interactive installation by the duo ‘The Ironing Board’, which invites visitors to step into the role of museum staff themselves and, with a touch of self-deprecating humour, discover the quirks of everyday museum life.
