Afro-Peruvian and queer interpretations, artistic interventions, and digital reappropriations bring history to life. The tour offers insights into processes of cultural reappropriation and demonstrates how a colonial-era archive can become a space for dialogue, participation, and new connections across generations and geographical boundaries.

Meet me here at the centre… Let us first build a whare where we can share a story."Whiti Hereaka, an acclaimed author from Aotearoa New Zealand, presents excerpts from her award-winning novel Kurangaituku (winner of the Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize at the 2022 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards).

The public event marking the conclusion of the two-day symposium is dedicated to African art during the Nazi era and the Second World War. It will focus on looting, colonial continuities, museums, the art market and the perception of African art under fascist regimes. The event will be held in English.

Public guided tour of the exhibition “CATS!” at MARKK: The cat appears here as a cultural symbol between everyday life, art, and society. The tour offers engaging insights into selected objects and their stories, from historical representations to contemporary perspectives.

Seit Herbst 2023 werden am MARKK ausgewählte Museumsbestände erforscht, die während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus in die Sammlung gelangt sind. Das vom Deutschen Zentrum Kulturgutverluste geförderte Provenienzforschungsprojekt überprüft die Objekteingänge zwischen 1933 und 1945, erweitert bis in die Nachkriegszeit 1952.

The MARKK is taking part in #seeforfree again! We invite you to explore the museum and its exhibitions for free. Throughout the day, there will be short guided tours of various exhibitions, and Julia Nitschke will be on hand as a ‘walking cat oracle’ from 1 pm to 4 pm. In addition, from 11 am to 4 pm, the Bubette duo will be drawing live cat portraits of visitors, and open workshops will invite children and families to join in! From 4 pm, there will be a vinyl set by Phoung Dan and a conversation with Gabriel Schimmeroth to mark the conclusion of the #seeyouagain2026 project.
