Curatorial Research Fellow 2018/19
Emelihter Kihleng (PhD) was the first curatorial research fellow from February 2019 to February 2020 at the MARKK working on a project focusing on photographic portraits taken of Pohnpeians from Pohnpei Island, Micronesia during the Hamburg South Sea Expedition. Emelihter served as Cultural Anthropologist for the Pohnpei Historic Preservation Office prior to moving to Hamburg. She holds a PhD in Pacific Studies from Victoria University of Wellington in Aotearoa New Zealand and is a poet. During her fellowship she was the Co-Curator of the current exhibition “In the Shadow of Venus: Lisa Reihana and Pacific Taonga” Currently she is postdoctoral scholar at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich https://www.indigen.eu/team/core-group/emelihter-kihleng
