Design & Print, Tea & Talk to mark the closing of “Fresh Off the Press: The 1920s. Insights into China’s Modernity” and the anniversary of the city partnership

To mark the finale of the special exhibition “Fresh Off the Press: The 1920s. Insights into China’s Modernity,” a weekend full of creativity, encounters, and surprising perspectives awaits you. From Thursday, July 9, through Sunday, July 12, the MARKK invites you to a pop-up teahouse in the Gewölbesaal, where conversations meet stories, workshops offer opportunities to print, design, and experiment, exhibition design and contemporary design are showcased, and “Tea & Talks” provide a space to discuss the past, present, and future of the relationship between Hamburg and Shanghai. There will also be a final opportunity to join exclusive curator-led tours of the exhibition.

Whether you’re curious, creative, or simply looking for new inspiration: Stop by, get involved, and experience the museum as an open space for exchange and collaborative creation.

Teahouse Conversation: How Do We Make Space? Design, Stories, and Practices of Connection Between Hamburg and Shanghai

How do spaces of resonance emerge between places, cultures, and people across borders? And how do design, art, language, music, literature, and curatorial practice contribute to creating such spaces? Taking the Pop-Up Teahouse as both a place and a method for encounter, this evening—hosted by Katja Hellkötter, former representative of the City of Hamburg in Shanghai—invites an open conversation about perspectives, experiences, and creative and artistic practices in the transcultural and translocal exchange between Hamburg, Shanghai, and beyond. In addition to professional practices, the focus will be on personal stories and individual experiences.

Invited teahouse guests: Yimeng Wu, book artist, illustrator, and designer (Studio Wu 無); Dong Zhou, composer and performer (Studio hEARt); Shan Fan, painter and founding president of Brand Academy Hamburg; Xinyu Weng, product and exhibition designer at Druckfrisch (YUUE design studio); Isaac Peixiang Deng, founder of bóbó books Hamburg; Tobias Zaft, Hamburg-based artist; Ricarda Brosch, curator for East and South Asia at MARKK.
