Our Mission Statement
Art and culture can be found all over the world.
The museum aims to showcase them.
It aims to provide information about them,
so that people may come to appreciate art and culture more.
This is what the museum does:
- Exhibitions
- Events
- Research
- Fostering encounters
- To provide topics for reflection.
The museum has been in existence for 150 years.
Back then, Germany had colonies in other countries.
Germans ruled over the people there.
And they also acquired museum artefacts.
Today we believe:
- That was wrong.
- We are all citizens of one world.
- We have the same rights.
- And we want to respect one another.
We want to return stolen museum artefacts.
We want to preserve the others carefully.
We also want to acquire new, modern museum artefacts.
We want to understand the knowledge embodied in these objects.
And we want to hear what they mean to other people.
For example, people from their country of origin.
In this way, we too come to understand our world better and better.
