We are pleased to welcome the “Resistance & Life” series and author and translator Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus to MARKK. Raised in Haifa, Israel, he now lives in Berlin and writes regularly about Israel and Palestine. His articles appear in publications such as the *Süddeutsche Zeitung*, *taz*, and *Berliner Zeitung*, among others. His first novel, *Birobidzhan* (Voland & Quist), was longlisted for the 2023 German Book Prize. His second novel, *Gavdos*, will be published in early September.

In his book *keinheimisch*, he tells the story of his family, overshadowed by the Holocaust, while also questioning the history of Israel’s founding. His grandfather took part in the Nakba, yet the expulsion of the Palestinians was later portrayed as “liberation.” What role did his grandfather really play in 1948? In *keinheimisch*, childhood memories merge with reflections on history, literature, and politics. A moving book about narratives and the question of how much one can trust them, in which Dotan-Dreyfus also asks himself where a Jew can feel at home today—in Israel, Palestine, or Germany?

In our reading series “Resistance & Life,” we set out to find answers to these questions and invite authors of resistance to get to know them, their books, their thoughts, and their perspectives more closely, to immerse ourselves in their words, and to engage in conversation with you.
