Das Pergamon Museum wird inklusive des Museums für Islamische Kunst für grundlegende Renovierungsarbeiten schließen. Das Museum für Islamische Kunst wird komplett neu ausgerichtet werden.

Dr. John-Paul Sumner stellt das neue Konzept vor, präsentiert die innovativen Ansätze, mittels derer die Komplexität der kulturellen Geschichte islamischer Gesellschaften zu präsentieren. Grundfrage ist, wie die große Varietät islamischer Kulturen in einem Museum präsentiert werden kann. Im Anschluss wird zum Austausch und kleinem Umtrunk eingeladen.

Der aus Glasgow, Schottland, stammende Dr. John-Paul Sumner war zuvor an der Einrichtung des Glasgow Science Center und der preisgekrönten Neuausstellung der Kelvingrove Art Gallery und des Museums beteiligt. Mit dem Fellow Me Programm für internationale Kuratoren der Kulturstiftung des Bundes nach Deutschland gebracht, arbeitet er als Vermittlungskurator am Museum für Islamische Kunst in Berlin, um neue Ausstellungen und Ausstellungen für die Neuaufstellung zu entwickeln.

Soon the Pergamon Museum-including the Museum for Islamic Art- will close for a major refurbishment. The Museum für Islamische Kunst will undergo a complete re-display. This informal and illustrated talk will present the concept of the new displays and will illustrate some of the new and innovative ways planned to present the complex cultural history of Islamic societies. Topics include the how to present the variety of Islamic cultures.

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Dr. John-Paul Sumner previously helped set-up the Glasgow Science Centre and the award winning re-display of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Brought to Germany by the prestigious Kulturstiftung des Bundes ’Fellow Me’ Programme for International Curators he is now working as an Interpretation Curator at the Museum for Islamic Art, Berlin to develop new displays and exhibitions for the upcoming re-displays.
