Call for participation – What does food mean to you?

Museum am Rothenbaum. Cultures and Arts of the World is looking for people who are passionate about food. As a contributor to an exhibition, you are invited to select food-related objects from the museum’s collections and combine them with your own stories. We would like to encourage people of all ages, social and cultural biographies to enter into a dialog with us. The aim is to make underrepresented perspectives visible in our museum. Previous knowledge is not necessary.

What story or stories do you associate with food?

Food releases memories. Food can bring people together. It can also serve processes of appropriation or exclusion. Food stands for joy and is often at the heart of diasporic communities. Food is also linked to global events. Colonialism and migration determine in various ways how supermarkets and gastronomy have changed in Germany and worldwide. The museum contains eating and storage utensils, photographs and cooking utensils from many regions of the world that show these stories. We want to explore some of them together with you!

How do the objects in the MARKK collections affect you?

We invite everybody who is interested without any obligation. Over snacks and tea, we want to talk about your story, recipes and memories about food and get to know the MARKK collection better together. You are welcome to bring along a personal food-related item or a recipe. The events will be held in German and English language.

When? April 13th, April 14th, May 11th, May 12th, May 25th, May 26th, 12-4 p.m.
