Artist Talk mit Carolina Caycedo am International Day of Action for Rivers

Am International Day of Action for Rivers solidarisieren sich Gemeinschaften und Aktivist*innen, um sich global für sauberes Wasser, gegen die Privatisierung und für die Rechte von Flüssen einzusetzen. Carolina Caycedo wird unter anderem über ihre Arbeit Serpent River Book sprechen, die als Teil der Ausstellung Wasser Botschaften im MARKK gezeigt wird. In ihr versammelt die Künstlerin visuelles und schriftliches Material, das sie während ihres Aufenthaltes in kolumbianischen, brasilianischen und mexikanischen Gemeinschaften zusammengetragen hat, die von der Industrialisierung und Privatisierung der Flusssysteme betroffen sind.

Carolina Caycedo (1978) ist eine kolumbianische, in London geborene, multidisziplinäre Künstlerin. Ihre Performances, Videos, Bücher, Skulpturen und Installationen setzen sich mit ökologischen und sozialen Themen auseinander. Ihre Arbeit trägt zur Konstruktion eines historischen Umweltgedächtnisses bei, das ein grundlegendes Element für die Nichtwiederholung von Gewalt gegen menschliche und nicht-menschliche Entitäten darstellt. Caycedo ist derzeit für den Preis Artes Mundi 10 in Wales nominiert und ist 2023 United States Artists Fellow.  Sie lebt und arbeitet in Los Angeles.

On the International Day of Action for Rivers, communities and activist unite in solidarity to advocate for clean water, against privatization and the rights of rivers. Carolina Caycedo will talk with Johanna Wild about her work Serpent River Book, which is currently on display as part of the exhibition Water Messages at the MARKK. Serpent River Book gathers visual and written materials compiled by the artist while working in Colombian, Brazilian and Mexican communities affected by the industrialization and privatization of river systems.

Carolina Caycedo (1978) is a Colombian, London-born, multidisciplinary artist known for her performances, videos, artist’s books, sculptures, and installations that examine environmental and social issues. Her work contributes to the construction of environmental historical memory as a fundamental element for non-repetition of violence against human and nonhuman entities. Caycedo is currently a nominee for the Artes Mundi 10 prize in Wales, and a 2023 United States Artists Fellow. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
