Robert Wiremus faszinierendes Arrangement von Mozarts Requiem bewahrt die Intimität des Originals, durchwebt es jedoch mit Einflüssen der Māori-Musiktraditionen. Inspiriert von der Natur Aotearoas und der Antarktis, verbindet das Werk klassisches Requiem mit indigenem Trauerritual. VOICES wird begleitet vom vielfach preisgekrönten Orchester im Treppenhaus unter der Leitung von Dr. Karen Grylls.

Beide Konzerte finden im Rahmen des PHŒNiX festival – Koloniale Interferenzen statt, das über sieben Monate die koloniale Vergangenheit Hamburgs, Deutschlands und Europas beleuchtet. Die Veranstaltungen entstehen in Kooperation mit dem einhornkollektiv UG – Agentur für kulturelle Transformation.

Robert Wiremu’s new arrangement of Mozart’s Requiem preserves the virtuoso and intimate atmosphere of the original, but offers a fresh perspective with influences from Māori musical traditions. Inspired by Aotearoa and Antarctica, the work combines motifs such as flying, birdsong and nature, and processes a national tragedy in New Zealand between classical requiem and indigenous mourning ritual.

The concert is part of the PHŒNiX.festival – colonial interferences. Under this year’s motto ‘Colonial Interferences’, the colonial past of Hamburg, Germany and Europe will be examined. The PHOENiX festival will be held at various venues in Hamburg. 7 months of festival!
