What implications are tied to monumentality in China? How can  monumentality be defined in ancient and contemporary Chinese art? Starting from the monumental painting „Suppression of the Lin Shuangwen Uprising in Taiwan“, which is currently on display at MARKK, we will disuss the concept of monumentality with an emphasis on collective memory, provenance and the current boom of Chinese art institutions.
